Wood PLA Filament 1.75mm 1kg Sandable Wood Finish

Brand: Yiqiu3D · Model: Wood PLA · Wood-effect prints are only worth making if they can be finished, and many spools fail exactly there: the surface fuzzes under abrasive paper or softens and smears instead of cutting clean. This Wood PLA Filament Sandable grade is made to be worked after printing. It responds to sanding, takes stain and paint, and holds a warm wood-grain look on the part, so DIY builds and cosplay props get a finished appearance instead of raw plastic.

  • The wood character comes from the strand itself
  • Sandability is only usable if the print is dimensionally steady. The strand is held at 1.75mm diameter on a round spool for reliable feed
  • Run it on standard FDM printers such as Bambu Lab and Creality style machines inside the 190-220 °C window. The sandable surface is the reason to choose it: model makers

Quick Answer

What makes this filament sandable compared with ordinary wood-effect PLA?

Ordinary wood-effect PLA is tuned for appearance only, so abrasive paper tends to tear the surface into fuzz or melt it into smears. This grade is formulated so the printed wall cuts cleanly under sandpaper, holds the edge you sanded and accepts stain or paint. That is what allows a printed part to be finished like a workshop piece rather than left as-is.

Best for: Suits crafts and cosplay parts where a warm wood texture and post-sanding finish are part of the value - available in 9 colours; 1kg spools; lead colour Wood PLA. Not ideal for: Avoid for outdoor or wet environments - moisture affects the finish; choose ASA instead - available in 9 colours; 1kg spools; lead colour Wood PLA.

Product highlights

3 reasons

The wood character comes from the strand itself, not from a coating: the surface is matte, warm and grained, with no plastic gloss, which is why flat panels, tabletop scenery and prop armour read as timber and not as filament. The same wood-effect compound is used across the whole stocked colour range, so a single display or scenery set can be built from one material family.

Sandability is only usable if the print is dimensionally steady. The strand is held at 1.75mm diameter on a round spool for reliable feed, net weight is 1 kg net filament per spool, and the carded length is approx. 335m. Recommended printing temperature is, with the setting confirmed for your application. RoHS documentation available upon request.

Run it on standard FDM printers such as Bambu Lab and Creality style machines inside the 190-220 °C window. The sandable surface is the reason to choose it: model makers, scenery builders and prop makers can sand a joint, fill a seam and paint over it, and the texture keeps reading as wood after the work is done. A slightly wider nozzle and normal PLA part cooling are all it needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this filament sandable compared with ordinary wood-effect PLA?
Ordinary wood-effect PLA is tuned for appearance only, so abrasive paper tends to tear the surface into fuzz or melt it into smears. This grade is formulated so the printed wall cuts cleanly under sandpaper, holds the edge you sanded and accepts stain or paint. That is what allows a printed part to be finished like a workshop piece rather than left as-is.
Will it print on my FDM printer?
Yes. It is a 1.75mm FDM filament supplied on a standard round spool, so it runs on Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa and other common 1.75mm machines without modification. Each spool is 1 kg net filament per spool and fits standard spool holders and most dry boxes. A larger nozzle diameter is optional, not required.
What print settings do you recommend?
A nozzle temperature confirmed for your application covers the range and gives a well-fused wood-grain surface; stay inside that window and tune layer height and flow to the part instead. Heated bed settings depend on your printer and build surface, so follow your own machine profile rather than a single number from us. Normal PLA speeds and part cooling work well; sanding after printing is where the finish is won.
What is this wood-effect PLA best used for?
Craft and cosplay parts, scale-model scenery, tabletop terrain, prop armour, wall panels and architectural display models - anywhere a warm wood texture and a post-sanding finish are part of the value. It is not intended for load-bearing structural parts, and it is not the right grade for outdoor or wet environments: moisture affects the finish, and ASA is the better choice there.
How is the filament packed and stored?
Each spool is vacuum sealed with a desiccant pack and shipped on a round spool, so it arrives dry. Reseal opened spools or move them into a dry box with desiccant and keep them out of direct sunlight. Moisture is more visible on a matte wood-effect surface than on a glossy one: it shows as a duller, uneven finish and extra stringing.
