What makes a silk PLA print look different from ordinary PLA?
The finish comes from the pigment and polymer system rather than from a coating: the surface comes off the plate with a smooth, low-glare sheen that follows the layer line instead of scattering light in every direction, which is what makes a plain printed surface look chalky. It is a decorative effect for parts that are seen - display models, vases, figurines, gift items and props. It is not a mechanical upgrade: silk PLA is still PLA, so strength and heat resistance stay in the normal PLA band.
