What does carbon-fibre reinforcement add to nylon?
Nylon on its own is tough and abrasion-resistant, but it is also flexible, absorbs moisture and moves slightly with humidity, so a thin gear tooth or a slider face can change fit in service. Short carbon fibre carried in the PA6 matrix raises stiffness and dimensional stability, so the printed part holds its geometry under load and through moisture cycles. That combination - wear resistance from the nylon and stiffness from the fibre - is why PA6-CF is used for gears, sliders, guides and tooling rather than for display parts.
