Glow-in-the-Dark PLA Filament 1.75mm 1kg Rainbow Night-Glow

Brand: Yiqiu3D · Night-visible parts fail the same way: a marker or sign looks fine in daylight and disappears once the light goes out, and a flat pigment green reads the same on every model. This grade is a PLA compound carrying phosphorescent pigment, so a printed part takes a charge from ordinary room or daylight and then gives off a soft green glow on its own - a luminous effect built into the material, not a coating that can peel. It is a signage and decor material, not a load-bearing grade.

Quick Answer

How does a glow filament actually work, and what should I expect from it?

The strand is PLA compounded with phosphorescent pigment. Light falling on the printed surface charges that pigment, and the part then gives off a soft glow on its own in a dark room - a luminous effect built into the material, not a coating that can peel off and not reflective tape. How strongly and how long a part keeps glowing after the lights go out depends on the light it received and on the thickness of the printed wall, so treat the glow as a qualitative feature and judge it on a printed sample in your own lighting rather than from a photograph.

Is it right for my project?

Best for: Designed for night-visible items - safety markers, signage, toy parts and novelty decor that glow after dark - available in 9 colours; 1kg spools. Not ideal for: Not for high-strength mechanical parts; use a CF or nylon grade where load matters - available in 9 colours; 1kg spools.

Product highlights

3 reasons

Lime Green leads the range: under normal light the strand reads as a clean, opaque lime green, so a printed part looks like a deliberate colour choice on a shelf long before it is ever dark. The same glow family carries Rainbow Moon, Rainbow Pearl White and Candy Rainbow among further shades, all on one PLA base, so a reseller can hold a single print profile and still offer a colour line to its own customers instead of stocking several materials to cover the shade line.

1.75mm diameter on a standard round spool, 1 kg net filament per spool and approximately 330 m of strand, with a nozzle temperature confirmed for your application. Diameter and the melt window are the two figures that decide whether a decorative part prints clean, and both are held per spool, so a spool can move between machines without re-tuning the profile proved on the first one. Prints are opaque and matte, so layer lines stay quiet on visible faces of a sign or a marker.

Drop-in on the 1.75mm FDM machines a studio, school or print farm already runs - Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa and similar - and it prints on a normal PLA profile: no enclosure, no high-temperature hotend and no hardened nozzle are needed. A standard spool holder or a dry box takes the spool directly, with no adapter and no re-spooling. Keep the spool sealed until use and dry it if it has been open in a humid room: damp PLA still pops in the nozzle and prints weak layers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a glow filament actually work, and what should I expect from it?
The strand is PLA compounded with phosphorescent pigment. Light falling on the printed surface charges that pigment, and the part then gives off a soft glow on its own in a dark room - a luminous effect built into the material, not a coating that can peel off and not reflective tape. How strongly and how long a part keeps glowing after the lights go out depends on the light it received and on the thickness of the printed wall, so treat the glow as a qualitative feature and judge it on a printed sample in your own lighting rather than from a photograph.
Will it run on the machines my workshop already has?
Yes. It is 1.75mm filament for standard FDM machines - Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa and similar - and it prints on a normal PLA profile, so no enclosure, no high-temperature hotend and no hardened nozzle are required. The spool is a standard round 1kg format and sits on an ordinary spool holder, a wall mount or a dry box with no adapter. The one thing worth planning is quantity: glow decor often prints as small parts, so a 1 kg spool covers a long run of markers, letters and ornaments.
What nozzle temperature should I set?
Run the nozzle at, with the setting confirmed for your application. That is the figure specified for this grade, and it sits inside the standard PLA window that most machines already carry for decorative prints. Bed temperature settings stay with your own machine profile rather than with the spool, so keep the proven PLA bed setting you use today. If a very fast profile shows uneven extrusion, reduce the print speed before changing the temperature - the pigment does not need a hotter nozzle.
How much filament is on one spool, and how far does it go?
Each spool carries 1 kg net filament per spool at 1.75mm diameter, which is approximately 330 m of strand. Usable length shifts slightly with run tolerance, so plan a production batch from the slicer estimate for 1 kg on the 1.75mm profile you use and treat the metre figure as nominal. Spools ship individually sealed, so spares can be stored unopened, and a mixed order can be split across the glow shades and still run on one profile.
Which shades are available, and how consistent are they between batches?
Lime Green is the lead shade of this glow range, and the same family covers Rainbow Moon, Rainbow Pearl White, Blue Pearl White and Candy Rainbow among further glow shades. Every shade is run on the same PLA base, so the surface finish and the print behaviour stay the same across the range and only the colour changes. For a repeat order, quote the shade name used on your first order so the next batch is matched against the same reference. Send a colour target with the enquiry if you need a shade that is not on the list.
What is this glow PLA best used for?
Night-visible and decorative work: safety markers and signage, toy parts, novelty decor, cosplay props, model kits and kids' room accessories that keep a soft glow after the lights go out. It is also a good fit for printed lettering, ornaments and display pieces where the colour has to carry the design in daylight as well as in the dark, and for batch runs of small parts where the same profile is used repeatedly. It is not for structural or load-bearing parts - brackets, hinges and stressed assemblies belong on an engineering grade.
How is the spool packed, and how should I store it?
Each spool is vacuum sealed in a moisture-barrier bag with a desiccant pack and shipped on a standard round spool that fits ordinary holders and dry boxes. After opening, reseal the bag or move the spool into a dry box with desiccant and keep it out of direct sunlight. Damp PLA pops in the nozzle and prints weak layers, and a spool that has been open in humid air is worth drying before a long run. Storing the spool dry does not affect the glow effect.
