02 — What it actually costs

Standard PLA does not belong anywhere near water or solvents. Choosing the grade after the part has failed means repeating the whole design cycle.

  1. 01

A part that absorbs moisture loses strength while still looking intact

  2. 02

UV exposure degrades an unprotected surface over a season

  3. 03

A grade chosen without testing against the actual medium fails unpredictably

03 — Why it happens

The mechanism, not the symptom

01

Exposure defines the grade

Salt water, fuel and solvents place very different demands on a polymer. The medium decides the material, not the other way round.

02

Moisture tolerance is not chemical resistance

A grade that handles humidity well may still be unsuitable for prolonged contact with a solvent, so both axes have to be checked.

03

Validation must use the real medium

Immersion and exposure testing with the actual substance is the only reliable answer for a specific chemical environment.

04 — What we hold for you

Levers you can actually pull

03

Exposure validation

A structured way to test a candidate grade against your actual medium.

We provide A pass and fail result before the design is released

The Challenge

Standard PLA fails in days in marine environments — salt spray accelerates polymer degradation. ABS fails with fuel exposure. Even PETG degrades with prolonged chemical immersion. If your parts are going into a marine engine bay, a chemical processing plant, or an outdoor marine environment, you need a material with proven chemical resistance data — not just “good for outdoor use.”

What You Get

  • Salt spray test data — ASTM B117 validation for 500h and 1000h exposure available
  • Chemical immersion data — ASTM D543 resistance to diesel, saltwater, brake fluid, and common solvents
  • Custom formulation — for extreme chemical exposure requirements, custom polymer packages are available
  • Engineering consultation — our team advises on part orientation, wall count, and infill for chemical resistance
